One of the most characteristic features of the ornate wrasse (Thalassoma pavo) is the sex change from female to male when reproductive conditions require it.
Where to find them?
In the Mediterranean habitat of the Aquarium, specifically in the Infralitoral area.
There is a clear distinction between males and females. Females are an orange-brown colour and males have a green coloured body; both have a multitude of turquoise blue lines on their heads.
They live at depths of between 1 and 40 metres and usually measure 25 centimetres.
