Discover the Hemisfèric
IMAX cinema and digital projections to feel adventures through spectacular images.
This is the largest hall in Spain to contain three systems projecting onto a concave screen of 900 square metres:
- Large-format cinema, IMAX Dome.
- Digital 3D.screen measures: rectangle about 12x6 meters.
- Digital projections. Astronomical representations and entertainment shows.
The Hemisfèric was inaugurated in 1998 and was the first building in the City of Arts and Sciences to open its doors to the public. It is a spectacular construction designed by Santiago Calatrava, with an ovoid roof over 100 metres long that contains in its interior the large sphere that constitutes the projection room.
The Hemisfèric offers a varied programme of immersive projections in a semi-spherical dome (IMAX, digital projections)… in an exclusive setting that is unique in the world because of its design. Since it was inaugurated on 16 April 1998, it has offered a diverse programme within an exclusive setting. With its contents being regularly renewed, the programmes of the Hemisfèric have been outstanding over these years as it has offered a number of themes from the world of science and technology: more than 47 productions that have been watched by 7 million viewers in some 40.000 hours of projections
Imax Dome Cinema
The IMAX system continues to represent the best example of cinema on a large scale. The extraordinary sharpness and luminosity of the projections, together with the large size of the screen and the sound quality, help to create exceptional realism that integrates the spectator within the images. Immersive and educational cinema is a formula that continues to arouse a passionate response.
Digital 3D
The spectacular show of the digital projections with the maximum three-dimensional realism thanks to the magic of the active glasses 3D and the most modern technological developments
Digital projections
The Hemisfèric also includes the most advanced system of digital full-dome projection. This new projection type allows the spectator to enter the world of astronomy and digital animation with optical effects impossible to achieve in the analogue world. The Hemisfèric offers digital-format shows of two kinds: digital projections on cultural and educational themes and digital planetariums. The images cover the whole screen because they use a system made up of six Barco Galaxy projectors of 12,000 ANSI lumens each distributed on the perimeter of the screen. Moreover, a Zeiss PowerDome graphic generator allows the generation of digital content, and a Uniview display platform and astronomical simulator reproduces the whole universe, as it has an extensive three-dimension astronomy database.
